Chikodi taluka is located in North-Western part of Karnataka. The total Geographical area is 1,269.50 square kilometers. The Taluka is having 102 inhabited villages and hamlets with rural population of 561700 souls as per 2001 census. This is the second most populous taluka of Belgaum District. The taluka is bounded by Kolhapur District and Sangli District of Maharashtra. Out of Geographical area, 74% of the area is used for cultivation. Geographically the area is covered by Deccan Trap formation. The average Annual rainfall is 635 mm. Three rivers run in Taluka viz 1) Krishna 2) Vedaganga 3) Doodaganga.


The main occupation of the Taluka is Agriculture. Cultivated area of taluka is 1, 14, 144 Hectors. The crops grown are Sugar cane, Wheat and Ground nut. The area is covered by Ghataprabha project and Doodganga project. Total irrigable area by canal, Irrigation tanks, open wells, and bore wells is 17,673 hectares. There are two Sugar factories, located at Nipani Town and at Nandi village. Nipani town is the main market center having A.P.M.C. Yard. N.H.-4, which is a part of Bangalore-Poona road, passes through the taluka.
