Ranibennur


Ranibennur is the biggest city and only City Municipal Corporation in Haveri district in Karnataka. It is situated about 300 km north west of Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. Its also well connected to other major cities like Hubli by 105 km, Shivamogga by 88 km, Davangere by 37 km.


Popularly known as the "Gateway to North Karnataka", The name of the city is derived from the term Rani-bennuru, literally meaning Queen's resting place. From the late 17th century onwards, the city was a part of the Regency of Bombay until the independence of India in 1947, when Bombay merged into the Republic of India.


One of Karnataka's most important river - Tungabhadra - flows along the border of Ranebennur taluk in the south. Another river - Kumadvathi - which originates from Madagh Masur Lake flows all the way from Hirekerur taluk & passes inside Ranebennur taluk & finally joins river - Tungabhadra - in Ranebennur Taluk.


Ranebennur is a taluk famous for its rich commodity market. Commodities like cotton yarn, cotton seed, oil seeds, red chilli, betel nut and betel leaf are openly traded on the burgeoning local market.


Ranebennur is a very famous in seed multiplication. Several seed company are located and operating from here. Mahyco, Namdari, Advanta, Suraj seeds, Chirag Seeds Corporation and the list goes on...


Ranebennur taluk is selected to be the Industrial Hub of old Dharwad District, advantages being its on the bank of River Tungabhadra, well connectivity of roads to various important places by National Highway - NH4, State Highways - SH57, SH26, SH76.
